UCC and University Singers are combining to perform a Requiem setting by José Maurício Nunes Garcia, a 19th century Afro-Brazilian composer whose works are huge in scope but under-performed in the US. This will be almost certainly the first time this work is performed in the western United States, and one of very few performances in the country. It will be a huge performance and a mix of undergraduates, graduate students, and community members making up about 120 singers, plus orchestral players from Tucson Symphony Orchestra, for a total of about 150 wonderful musicians on the Crowder stage.
