UA WIND ENSEMBLE & UA WIND SYMPHONY

Faculty Artists, Guest Artists, Strings, UA Hosted Events, Woodwinds Thursday March 1, 2018 - 7:30p.m. to 9:30p.m.

Venue: Centennial Hall, 1020 East University Boulevard

The University of Arizona Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony will perform a free-admission concert in Centennial Hall on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at 7:30 p.m. The featured soloist is faculty artist Theodore Buchholz, cello.

The University of Arizona Wind Ensemble will be featured at the 2018 College Band Directors National Association conference at Sonoma State University. This concert will provide our home audience with a conference preview. The Wind Ensemble will showcase faculty artist Theodore Buchholz on a new work by acclaimed composer Carter Pann, which was co-commissioned by the University of Arizona. “The High Songs” for Amplified Cello and Chamber Winds is a work that broadens the possibilities of strings and wind band colors using a modern musical language.

The Wind Ensemble is under the direction of Chad R. Nicholson, director of bands. The Wind Symphony is under the direction of Chad Shoopman, associate director of bands and director of athletic bands. Graduate student Evan Gibson will also conduct in this program.
