The Pride of Arizona Marching Band Camp performance

The Pride of Arizona Marching Band Camp

Saturday, August 13, 2022 through Friday, August 19, 2022 from 8:00 a.m. – 10:00 p.m.

University of Arizona Main Campus (McKale Field, Gittings Field, Centennial Hall, and Bear Down Field)


The University of Arizona Pride of Arizona Marching Band will hold its annual Band Camp, Aug. 13-19, filled with all-day rehearsals and performances that are free and open to the public, held at various venues on campus.

 

On Friday the 19th at 9:30pm, the Pride of Arizona will hold their annual end of Band Camp performance. This very popular community event is a great way to get excited about the new football season and see the latest edition of the Pride of Arizona Marching Band. The event is free and open to the public.

The band will conclude the camp with pre-game and the Silk Sonic Band Camp Performance on Friday, Aug. 19, at 9:30p, on Bear Down Field.

“This very popular community event is a great way to get excited about the new football season and see the latest edition of the Pride of Arizona Marching Band,” said Shoopman.

The Pride of Arizona

The Pride of Arizona Marching Band, which includes students representing more than 80 majors at the University of Arizona, exemplifies one of the finest and most storied athletic bands programs in the country, and has built its reputation through outstanding Performance, Respect for each other and the University, Integrity in all we do, Discipline of focus, and a relentless pursuit of Excellence. Our mission is to use the transformative power of music and the marching arts to entertain, educate, and elevate our students and audiences. The “Pride of Arizona” provides University of Arizona students an opportunity to perform, inspire, and collaborate in support of the Wildcat spirit while discovering their own individual excellence in a group endeavor. The POA includes a battery-unit drumline, a nationally recognized pomline, national and international champion baton twirlers, and a flag, rifle, and sabre colorguard.

The 49th Annual President’s Concert will feature the Arizona Symphony Orchestra and student soloists who won the highly competitive University of Arizona Concerto Competition. Featuring clarinetist Gloria Ines Orozco Dorado, performing the “Black Dog Concerto” by Scott McAllister; pianist Wenxin Guan, performing movements II and III of the Piano Concerto No. 1 in G Minor, Op. 25 by Felix Mendelssohn; mezzo-soprano Martina Portychova, performing “Nobles Seigneurs, salut!” from Les Huguenots by Giacomo Meyerbeer; and violinist Emmy Tisdel, performing movement I of the Violin Concerto in D major, Opus 35 by Piotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky. The students are selected from each area of the Fred Fox School of Music – strings, voice, wind and percussion, and keyboard. They represent the depth of talent at the school, shining in this performance with the Arizona Symphony Orchestra. Graduate students Yudai Ueda and Fátima Corona del Toro will conduct the students’ performances. The program will also include works by Myroslav Skoryk and Alexander Borodin, under the baton of Dr. Thomas Cockrell.
