Described as a “striking interpreter” who gives a “committed and heartfelt performance” by Musical America and The New York Times, pianist Fanya Lin has captivated audiences worldwide with her charismatic and gripping performances. Her orchestral appearances include the Toruń Symphony Orchestra, Utah Symphony, Savannah Philharmonic, Grand Junction Symphony, the Aurora Symphony, and the Jackson Symphony Orchestra. Lin’s performance of the Prokofiev Piano Concerto No. 3 with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra was depicted as “an ethereal woman whose ruffled dress made her resemble a delicate black swan,” while her “mesmerizing performance” of Rachmaninoff’s Rhapsody on a Theme by Paganini made it appear as though “a tornado had touched down through her body and lifted her, feathers fluttering, from the piano stool as she weighed into the keys” by the Hastings Times and Festival Flyer in the UK.

An avid soloist, Fanya Lin promotes classical music to the general public by creating innovative concert programs and engages her audience by presenting interactive performances. Her solo recitals have been featured in numerous prestigious concert series, including the Schubert Club Musicians on the Rise (MN), the Stecher and Horowitz Young Artist Series (NY), The Steinway Society of Western Pennsylvania (PA), Friday Musicale (FL), and the Great Pianists of the World Steinway Piano Series (IL). Moreover, Fanya has encouraged and assisted younger generations of music students to continue their education and pursue their dreams through fundraising events such as the Saint Island Fundraising Concert, Dream 125 Fundraising Concert, and the Designation Concert of Sid & Mary Foulger’s School of Music.

Fanya also dedicates herself to new music by performing with contemporary music organizations such as Focus and Axiom. Her recent projects include performance of Boulez Sur Incises for three harps, three pianos, and three percussionists at the Fred Fox School of Music, performance of Old Voltage by Aaron Graham at the 2020 Turn Up Multimedia Music Festival, piano-duet concert featuring works by Dan Asia, Tania León, Gabriela Lena Frank at the London Festival of American Music in 2021, and multimedia show performance StellarScape by Kay He. Her recording of duo piano work Piano Set II by renowned composer Daniel Asia is included on a newly released album, Ivory II, by Summit Records.

As a chamber musician, Fanya has collaborated with world-class musicians including Noah Bendix-Balgley (concert master of the Berlin Philharmonic), Romie de Guise-Langlois (clarinetist of Lincoln Center’s Chamber Music Society), and Ta’u Pupu’a (tenor in major opera productions including Metropolitan Opera and San Francisco Opera). Fanya’s festival concerts and masterclass series include Aspen, Music@Menlo, Rocky Mountain Audio Festival, Minnesota International Piano Camp, and the Savannah Arts Academy.

A native of Taipei, Taiwan, Fanya is a top prizewinner of the Hastings International Piano Concerto Competition, Concours International de Piano France-Amériques, New York International Piano Competition, and Seattle International Piano Competition. Fanya earned her Doctoral Degree at the University of Minnesota under the guidance of Emerita Distinguished McKnight Professor Lydia Artymiw; her Master’s Degree at The Juilliard School with Professor Hung-Kuan Chen and Jerome Lowenthal; and her Bachelor’s Degree at Weber State University with Dr. Yu-Jane Yang. In Fall 2019, Dr. Fanya Lin joined the University of Arizona as Assistant Professor of Practice in Piano, where she teaches applied piano lessons, chamber music, and Yoga for Musicians course.

Thanks so much for the recognition! Would you be able to repost with the correct spelling of my name ("Skoronski" rather than "Skoranski")?

👏👏👏👏👏

Congratulations 🎊

Congratulations to Ben.

JustArts Fellowship for Student Leaders in the Arts

The program was created in collaboration with students serving on the Arizona Arts Diversity and Inclusion Committee, including Seoyeon Kim, Cat Cogliandro, Arianna Aquino, and Lynn Robinson. I am excited that it is now ready to launch with generous funding made possible through philanthropic support.

This unique opportunity invites students to design and complete a change-oriented project that increases student access to meaningful arts experiences. Fellows identify challenges, generate creative solutions, and collaborate with student peers and Arizona Arts mentors to bring a more just vision of the arts to life.

To be eligible for the Fellowship, students must be degree-seeking undergraduate or graduate students in UArizona's College of Fine Arts and enrolled full-time for the 2022-2023 academic year. Fellows will meet once every other week during the fall and spring semesters. They will also receive a $6,000 award with an additional $1,500 in supply/execution budget to bring projects to fruition. You may find more details in the attached flyer.

In my capacity as AVP for Equity in the Arts, I've come to know students across CFA who demonstrate a commitment to equity and inclusion through advocacy, community-building, and other actions big and small. I am sure there are many students in your networks who are ideal candidates for this opportunity. Please share the announcement and flyer widely and encourage individual students to apply. The deadline for applications is May 30, 2022.
