Co-sponsored by Tucson Music Teachers Association

Students attend festivals and contests to get a rating or score, but they also come to get constructive, meaningful feedback. Most teachers enter their students in these events and master classes in anticipation of this feedback. When we serve as an adjudicator or master class clinician, we are called upon to be clear, fair, professional, and helpful. This session will explore how to be the most effective adjudicator/clinician in a variety of settings, and will explore the implications for our students who participate in these events.

Craig Sale, of Tucson, Arizona, is a pianist, teacher, workshop clinician, author, and editor. For thirty years he served as director of the Preparatory and Community Piano Program at Concordia University Chicago, where he also taught courses in piano pedagogy.

Craig is senior editor for Piano Magazine and director of online courses for the Frances Clark Center for Keyboard Pedagogy. He served as editor for the highly praised book, “The Success Factor in Piano Teaching” by Elvina Pearce. He is the author of “Piano Interval Workbook” and co-author of “The Music Tree: Activities 3” and “The Music Tree: Activities 4.” He has presented master classes and workshops for piano teachers across the United States.

Craig holds performance degrees from Northwestern University and the University of Illinois/Urbana-Champaign, and a Professional Teaching Certificate from the New School for Music Study. He serves on the Board of Trustees for the Frances Clark Center, and is a member of Music Teachers National Association.
