Music Education

The Music Education Program at The University of Arizona helps students develop into outstanding music teachers by providing a strong foundation for future teachers and continuing education for inservice teachers. Undergraduate and graduate programs build a core base of musical knowledge and teaching skills while providing students the opportunity to pursue their personal career goals.

A nationally and internationally renowned faculty guides students through the four-year Bachelor of Music in Music Education curriculum that focuses instruction in an area chosen by students: elementary, middle, or high school; winds, strings, percussion, voice, or general music. The Master of Music program enhances students’ musical skills, teaching skills, and introduces students to the wider profession of Music Education through the study of research techniques. The Doctor of Philosophy in Music Education prepares graduates for college teaching or leadership roles in music education.

Graduates of the Bachelor’s program are certified to teach all aspects of music in any grade from kindergarten through high school in any public school in Arizona and many other states. Music education majors can expect to participate in high-quality music ensembles and enjoy experiences with children throughout the curriculum. Our graduates secure positions in the finest elementary, secondary, and collegiate level institutions across the country and around the world.

Students will work with a committed music education faculty who are both teachers and researchers. Faculty participate actively in professional organizations, frequently present at professional conferences, and are published in music education journals.

Join the long tradition of excellence in the Music Education program at The University of Arizona where faculty care about their students and students benefit from the resources of a major university with the hospitality of a small community.
