UA Alumni Named Conductor and Assistant Conductor of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra Chorus
Congratulations to Dr. Marcela Molina on being named the new conductor of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and Dr. Ben Hansen on being named assistant conductor!
Dr. Marcela Molina holds degrees from the University of Arizona and Westminster Choir College. She has worked with the Tucson Girls Chorus since 2006, first as the Artistic Director and then as the Executive director in 2011. Among her many accomplishments, Dr. Molina was an honoree of Tucson’s 40 under 40 and was named 2019 Choral Director of the Year by Arizona American Choral Directors Association. She currently serves on the board of Chorus America.
Dr. Molina said of her new appointment: “I am thrilled to be appointed as the new director of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra Chorus. The TSO is such an important organization for our city and it is a great honor to be continuing the high standard of artistry from my mentor Dr. Chamberlain. I am very excited to collaborate closely with Maestro Gomez and contribute to enrich the musical trajectory of our city. “
Dr. Hansen has degrees from Yale, CCM, Catholic University, and the University of Arizona. Among his credits, he is the founder and Artistic Director of The Helios Ensemble, an award-winning SATB semi-professional choral group in Tucson, and the Director of Music at Catalina United Methodist Church. He is currently helping prepare Handel’s Messiah and more for the 2023-2024 season with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra.
Dr. Hansen noted his excitement about this opportunity and partnership with Dr. Molina “I’m so excited to join the TSO family and make great music! There are so many possibilities for the orchestra chorus and Dr. Molina and I can’t wait to explore!”
