Mariana Mevans, recipient of the UA College of Fine Arts Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award for the Fred Fox School of Music

Congratulations to doctoral student Mariana Mevans, who is the 2018-2019 recipient of the UA College of Fine Arts Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant Award for the Fred Fox School of Music.

Mariana Mevans is a second-year doctoral student in musicology with a minor in organ performance. She earned a master’s degree in harpsichord performance under the mentorship of Dr. Pamela Decker at the University of Arizona and completed a bachelor’s degree in piano performance at the University of Sonora in Mexico. She has studied and performed in festivals in Mexico, the United States, Canada and Spain. She has participated in master classes with Olivier Baumont, Peter Sykes, Kathryn Cok and Alissa Duryee, focusing on early keyboard performance. As a performer, Mariana is the principal continuo player of Arizona Baroque since 2015, alternating with solo recitals in the United States and Mexico. She is also part of the Music First program from the College of Fine Arts, teaching music to K-2 students. She is a current student member of the Advisory Board of Arizona Early Music Society and recently, published an entry in “The Sage International Encyclopedia of Music and Culture,” titled “Mexico: Modern and Contemporary Performance Practice.”
