As Fred Fox School of Music faculty members are wrapping up the academic year, some are preparing for exciting summer activities. Chad R. Nicholson, director of bands at the University of Arizona, will be one of two nationally recognized guests at New York’s famed Carnegie Hall. Nicholson, along with the director of orchestras at Michigan State University, Kevin Noe, will be providing private workshops with several ensembles from around the country as part of their performances at a concert on June 8, 2019.
Nicholson, a published author and experienced performer, has led wind bands and orchestras around the world, and he has presented multiple lectures at the Midwest International Clinic along with the NAfME National In-Service Conference in Texas. In addition to his university teaching, Nicholson holds the position of chief guest conductor of the Beijing Wind Orchestra, China’s first professional wind ensemble, and he has conducted at China’s National Center for Performing Arts several times over recent years. Next January, he will be heading to Tokyo to lead an international honor band of outstanding student musicians. Nicholson holds degrees from the University of Oklahoma (BME), New Mexico State University (MM), and Indiana University (DM).
