UA Graduate String Quartet

Small Ensembles, Strings, Student Recitals Thursday April 11, 2019 - 7:00p.m. to 9:00p.m.

The University of Arizona Graduate String Quartet won the silver medal at the 2018 MTNA National Competition. Join the outstanding members of this ensemble for a program of quartets by Beethoven, Dan Coleman and Debussy. Members of the quartet are master’s and doctoral students selected from a competitive international search, and the ensemble contributes to the Fred Fox School of Music through performance, outreach and educational initiatives.

String Quartet Op. 18, No. 2 in G Major by Ludwig van Beethoven (1770 – 1827)

I. Allegro

II. Adagio cantabile – Allegro

III. Scherzo: Allegro

IV. Allegro molto, quasi presto

 

String Quartet No. 1 “Quartetto ricercare” (1999/2003) by Dan Coleman (b. 1972)

I. Fierce, obsessed

II. Variations

III. Spirited – gentle

 

Intermission

 

String Quartet in G minor, Op. 10 by Claude Debussy (1862 – 1918)

I. Animé et très décidé

II. Assez vif et bien rythmé

III. Andantino, doucement expressif

IV. Très modéré – Trés mouvementé et avec passion
