Shangguan’s new work represents the sixth and final world première with a new archival collection for future students to review as the MUS course and musical world grows and progresses.

THE ODYSSEY OF PRIMORDIAL COSMIC
THE ODYSSEY OF PRIMORDIAL COSMIC draws profound inspiration from the Taoist philosophy, as encapsulated in the axiom “Tao begets one, one begets two, two beget three, and three beget all things,” a fundamental principle voiced by Lao Tzu in the Tao Te Ching. This maxim gracefully outlines the cosmic law of creation, illustrating the evolution of the cosmos from the singular source of the Tao.
Structured into three movements—‘Primordial Dawn,’ ‘Querying the Tao,’and ‘Unison of Oneness‘—the composition mirrors the cosmic and human evolutionary journey. ‘Primordial Dawn’ signifies the emergence from the Tao, ‘Querying the Tao,’delves into the exploratory process and the emergence of duality, while ‘Unison of Oneness‘signifies a return to the origin, embodying the state where all disparate elements merge into one.
The narrative flows from unity to plurality and back again, encapsulating the infinite possibilities and inherent contradictions of existence. The interplay of music, musicians and visual elements in an interactive framework symbolizes mankind’s constant search for the universe and the inner self.
