PROGRAM Introduction (viva voce)

Thesis

This lecture recital will illustrate how transcriptions of concert guitar repertoire for the marimba can be used to learn technical and expressive skills that exceed the scope of most existing pedagogical materials for the marimba. I will demonstrate how this project expands upon related transcriptions and existing research, provide a historical overview of marimba transcriptions and the work of Leo Brouwer, and describe the technical and expressive skills that can be learned through this music.
