EarthScape – Immersive Multimedia Performance

Friday October 3, 2025 - 7:30p.m. to 9:00p.m.

Venue: Crowder Hall

EarthScape traces history, from the birth of our sun to the present moment–exploring geology, life’s origins, the rise of the Anthropocene, climate evolution, and crisis. Engaging audiences in the unique and delicate nature of our planet, EarthScape is a call for responsible stewardship, as humanity and technology continue to transform.

In EarthScape, planets serve as allegories for the human condition. Told from the perspective of an Earth-like planet with a turbulent history. Life faces enormous challenges, yet it endures. A second planet travels a similar chaotic journey, yet becomes a verdant home for life. It is Earth. The two planets’ journey linked through time and space is mirrored by two people weaving a story of love and loss, leaving a sole survivor to navigate an uncertain future.

The approximately hour-long stage performance tells the interplanetary story via a medley of interactive visuals, light, and dance, guided by an electroacoustic musical score.

EarthScape is a collaboration between University of Arizona School of Music, the Department of Astronomy, Arizona Astrobiology Center (AABC), Live and Immersive Art, School of Dance, and School of Information. It is an immersive multimedia project synthesizing music, science, visual art, and technology. This convergence research collaboration is catalyzed by the union of concepts at the confluence of astronomy, humanity, artistic expression through music and dance, and socio-technical experience.
