DOCTORAL SOLO RECITAL – Shiqi Gu, piano

Keyboard, Student Recitals Wednesday August 29, 2018 - 7:30p.m. to 9:30p.m.

Venue: Crowder Hall, 1017 N. Olive Road, Tucson, AZ 85721-0004

The program is diverse. It blends the music of five periods and styles, including Italian Baroque music, 18 century Viennese classical music, 19 century romantic music, French Impressionist music, and Late 20 century East Asian music.

A native of China, Shiqi Gu is completing her fifth year of study as a D.M.A. student in piano performance at the Fred Fox School of Music. She studies piano with Professor Tannis Gibson. Shiqi received her Bachelor of Music degree and Master of Music degree from Xinghai Conservatory of Music and the Eastman School of Music respectively. Second Prize winner of the 2016 American Protégé International Competition for Piano (NY), she presented a Carnegie Hall (Weill) performance. Shiqi has also taken First Prize and Audience Prize in the 2017 Lois Trester Piano Competition, Second Prize in the 15th Hong Kong-Asia Piano Competition, and Third Prize in the IV International Klavierwettbewerb Wiesbaden Vorrunde, China Guangdong Competition. Shiqi is also an active collaborative pianist, and has played for many organizations in the past, including three years as pianist for the Arizona Choir under the direction of Dr. Bruce Chamberlain. Currently, she serves as pianist for the University Community Choir and Wildcat High School Honor Choir directed by Dr. Alyssa Cossey.
