UA alumnus Robert Williams is retiring after a 46-year career as the principal bassoonist in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra. He lives in Tucson and his wife, Treva Womble, retired DSO Oboe/English hornist, where they run their company, Womble/Williams Double Reeds. Robert recently released a mini documentary of his innovative reed making process, which includes one-of-a-kind machinery made custom for him. The film shows the reed making process from unprocessed tube cane from Argentina to a finished double reed and has been enthusiastically received in the bassoon community.
