Venue: Crowder Hall, 1017 N Olive Rd, Tucson, AZ 85721-0004

Music education faculty member Dr. Tammy Yi conducts Edvard Grieg’s “Holberg Suite,” and doctoral conducting student Sean Bresemann leads the ensemble in Benjamin Britten’s “Soirées Musicales” and Richard Wagner’s Overture to “Rienzi.”

Tammy Yi (music education, strings) joined the University of Arizona faculty in the fall of 2018. Specializing in string education, democratic classrooms, creativity and social justice, Dr. Yi holds degrees from Columbia University, University of Southern California and Azusa Pacific University. She was an instructor at Columbia University and conductor of the Manhattan School of Music Precollege Orchestras. She presents her work on social justice in orchestral pedagogy at conferences around the world.

Sean Peter Bresemann is a first-year doctoral student in orchestral conducting at the University of Arizona. He has participated as a conducting fellow at the Eastern Music Festival in 2015 and 2016 where he conducted in performance and in master classes led by Maestros Gerard Schwarz, Grant Cooper, José-Luis Novo and Eric Garcia. Bresemann’s conducting instructors have included David Itkin, Clay Couturiaux, and Terence Milligan. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in horn performance from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory  and a Master of Music degree in orchestral conducting from the University of North Texas.

The University of Arizona Philharmonic Orchestra is one of the large ensembles vital to the educational and artistic mission of the University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music. In its ranks are music majors and minors, as well as many students and other members of the UA community. The Philharmonic performs a cross-section of the orchestral repertoire in a number of concerts each year.
