The University of Arizona American Culture and Ideas Initiative at the Fred Fox School of Music presents “Academic Narcissism and the Attack on Humanistic Learning.” This free-admission lecture-presentation by Heather Mac Donald will take place on Sunday, February 25, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. in Room 146 of the Fred Fox School of Music.
Lecture Description:
The Western tradition’s cultural heritage continues to be diminished in the academy. Heather Mac Donald, Thomas W. Smith Fellow at the Manhattan Institute and a contributing editor of “City Journal,” will discuss how the West’s cultural inheritance remains indispensable to a strong academic curriculum and necessary for a robust cultural education.
About the Presenter:
HEATHER MAC DONALD is the Thomas W. Smith Fellow at the Manhattan Institute and a contributing editor of “City Journal.” She is a recipient of the 2005 Bradley Prize. Mac Donald’s work at “City Journal” has covered a range of topics, including higher education, immigration, policing, homelessness and homeless advocacy, criminal-justice reform, and race relations. Her writing has appeared in the “Wall Street Journal,” “Washington Post,” “New York Times,” “Los Angeles Times,” “The New Republic,” and “The New Criterion.” Mac Donald’s newest book, “The War on Cops” (2016), warns that raced-based attacks on the criminal-justice system, from the White House on down, are eroding the authority of law and putting lives at risk.
