ABOUT JACKIE GLAZIER
Hailed for her “robust playing and virtuosic performance” (San Diego Tribune) and “beautiful and clear tone” (The Clarinet Journal), Jackie Glazier is an active soloist, chamber musician, orchestral clarinetist, pedagogue, and advocate of new music. As associate professor of clarinet at the University of Arizona, Glazier is a committed pedagogue and mentor to future generations of clarinetists. As a soloist and chamber musician, she has performed throughout North America, Europe and Asia at many prestigious venues, including the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall.
Glazier is a founding member of the clarinet and saxophone ensemble, Duo Entre-Nous, with Belgian-based saxophonist Don-Paul Kahl. The duo is active in commissioning, performing, and recording works for clarinet and saxophone, and has been responsible for the creation of over 20 new works for the genre since 2016. They have released two albums of music they commissioned: Fresh Ink (2021) and Progress (2024).
Much of her work is connected to contemporary performance and intercultural arts research. Her performances have featured many world premieres, experimentation with choreography, multimedia, technology and exploration of scientific fields and the human experience. She is the co-director of the Watershed Soundscape Project; a multidisciplinary exploration of music, arts and watershed science in the Tucson Area. This community-based project has been responsible for over 30 events that have reached over 19,000 people within Santa Cruz Watershed.
As a soloist and chamber musician, Glazier has recorded for Parma, Centaur, Naxos, Toccata Classics, Mark Records, Equilibrium Records, New Sound Records, and Navona Records. In addition, Glazier is a frequent orchestral performer, having played with orchestras across the country as guest principal, second, Eb and bass clarinet. She currently serves as principal clarinet for the Grammy nominated True Concord Voices and Orchestra.
An active clinician and educator, Jackie has presented guest master classes at major universities throughout the United States, Latin America, and Asia. She has earned degrees from Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music, University of Florida, and Florida State University. Jackie was named one of the University of Florida’s Outstanding Young Alumni. She is an artist with Buffet-Crampon and Vandoren, and performs exclusively on Buffet-Crampon clarinets and Vandoren reeds.
ABOUT DON-PAUL KAHL
Praised for his “exceptional skill and grace,” (Brutal New Music Reviews), for his “beautiful tone…powerful performance…and full control on the instrument” (The Saxophone Symposium), and for possessing “the caliber of a soloist with whom composers dream to collaborate” (Brutal New Music Reviews), concert saxophonist Don-Paul Kahl has emerged as a prominent artist combining contemporary performance practice, artistic research, and musico-entrepreneurship. Able to seamlessly bridge American and European artistic aesthetics and practices, having been born and raised in the United States while completing his studies and developing his career in France and Belgium, Don-Paul actively lives and performs between the two continents, fostering artistic connections and creating meaningful cohesion between them.
Invited as a guest artist performer to major European and American festivals, Don-Paul has performed throughout the two continents. He has also had the opportunity to tour in Japan, Australia, South-East Asia, and Israel. In addition to solo appearances at festivals such as Harvard New Music Group (USA), Musikagileak Contemporary Music Circuit (ES), Musica Nova (USA), Unerhörte Musik (DE), MISE-EN Festival (USA), Guarnerius Cultural Centre (SRB), and Arizona Friends of Chamber Music (USA), etc., he has performed with several large ensembles including the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra, the Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra, Harmonieorkest Guy Duijck, Ocala Symphony Orchestra, Leuven New Music Ensemble, and Musa Horti, among others.
Don-Paul has been involved in the commission and performance of hundreds of works by some of the leading voices in new music of the 21st century. He has been lauded by leading living contemporary composers as a “great virtuose” (Chaya Czernowin), as an “artist beyond his time” (John Corigliano), and as “the Cathy Berberian of the saxophone” (Stratis Minakakis). His personal mission as an artist is to bridge the liminal space between composer and performer, actively cultivating collaborations in which both roles are viewed as equally vital to the artistic shaping and realization of a new work. Recent collaborations include works by Ramon Lazkano, Chaya Czernowin, Stratis Minakakis, María-Eugenia Luc, Richard Barrett, Yotam Haber, Chris Dench, Paul Clift, and Guilia Lorusso, among many others.
