RESCHEDULED — In conversation with Jennifer Johnson Cano & Christopher Cano

Guest Artists, Master Class, Tucson Desert Song Festival Monday April 6, 2026 - 6:30p.m. to 8:00p.m.

Venue: Holsclaw Hall, 1017 N. Olive Rd.

From True Concord:

Due to a death in the family, Jennifer Johnson Cano is no longer able to give her April 7th Close-Up Performance, presented by True Concord Voices & Orchestra. The event has been rescheduled for Tuesday, November 17th at 7:00pm in Holsclaw Hall at the University of Arizona. The Creative Discussion with the artists on Monday, April 6th at 6:30pm in Holsclaw Hall has also been postponed.

We look forward to seeing you in November for this exciting program, featuring the TDSF-commissioned World Premiere of a new song cycle entitled Bartleby, based on Herman Melville’s enigmatic short story, by lauded American composer Gregory Spears.

Spears is a New York-based composer, acclaimed for works that blend “touches of minimalism with post-Romantic lyricism” (Gramaphone Magazine) and whose music has been called “astonishingly beautiful” (The New York Times). His opera The Righteous was shortlisted for an International Opera Award in 2024 and was named a New York Times “Critic’s Pick,” and his opera Fellow Travelers is currently enjoying a 10th-anniversary national tour.

Jennifer Johnson Cano undertakes an impressive balance of operatic, orchestral, and chamber performances each season. With credentials too numerous to list, her performances range from the Chicago Symphony, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Cleveland Orchestra, and Philadelphia Orchestra to Houston Grand Opera, Santa Fe Opera, and more than 100 performances on stage with the Metropolitan Opera.

Joining her at the piano is seasoned recitalist, orchestra soloist, and collaborative pianist Christopher Cano. Mr. Cano has performed throughout the US, Mexico, Israel, Europe and the Far East, and has prepared singers for appearances with the world’s leading opera companies and orchestras. Mr. Cano currently holds the position of Director of the Cafritz Young Artists and American Opera Initiative of Washington National Opera.
