Garden design is largely considered a visual art, with landscape painting its closest relative. But, unlike paintings, gardens are not static. In reality they have more in common with music, where an ever-changing composition unfolds over time. Landscape designer and composer Larry Weaner will discuss how each of these art forms can inform the other to create more dynamic, legible, and evocative works of art.
About the Presenter
LARRY WEANER is nationally recognized for his work combining fine garden design and ecological restoration. He founded the firm Larry Weaner Landscape Associates in 1982. His work has received numerous recognitions and has been featured in The New York Times, The Wall Street journal, Garden Design, Landscape Architecture Magazine, and American Gardener. In 1990 he developed New Directions in the American Landscape (NDAL), a conference series dedicated to advancing the art and science of natural landscape design. Larry also composes multi-genre music and has had works performed at the Philadelphia Fringe Festival and the Philadelphia music and performance Salon presented by composer Andrea Clearfield.
The University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music presents Larry Weaner. This guest presentation will take place on Thursday, January 25, 2018 Room 146. Admission is free.
