The University of Arizona School of Music is proud to announce the world premiere of The Tin Angel, a bold new opera by composer Daniel Asia, based on Paul Pines’ novel The Tin Palace. Presented by Teatro Grattacielo, this long-anticipated production brings the gritty, poetic spirit of the 1970s Bowery jazz scene to the operatic stage.
Fifteen years in the making, The Tin Angel explores a world of musicians, artists, and outsiders through a powerful fusion of jazz-inspired storytelling and classical composition. With a libretto by Pines and direction from Teatro Grattacielo’s Stefanos Koroneos, this groundbreaking work captures the raw energy of New York’s East Village through a modern operatic lens.
