The Arizona Symphony Orchestra is proud to present the North American premiere performance of Dame Judith Weir’s Oboe Concerto, featuring faculty soloist Dr. Sara Fraker. Weir is one of the United Kingdom’s most celebrated contemporary composers of opera, symphonic and choral music. She held the position of Master of the Queen’s Musick from 2014-24. Dr. Fraker has served on the faculty of the UA School of Music faculty since 2012 and is a member of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra.
The balance of the program includes Handel’s Concerto Grosso “Alexander’s Feast” and Johann Strauss II’s overture to Die Fledermaus. Three brass fanfares by French composers Claude Debussy, Albert Roussel and Paul Dukas will be interspersed among the works of this eclectic and varied program.
