A Season of Heroines – Opera Theater

The University of Arizona Opera Theater presents A Season of Heroines

Two operas, written 400 years apart, mirror a heroine’s determination to not let the past rule her future.

 

UA Opera Theater is an artistic destination for adventurous opera audiences; meet the opera singers of tomorrow; experience opera with sets, costumes, lighting, and a live orchestra; presented with supertitles above the stage.


Dido and Aeneas Henry Purcell, Nahum Tate (1688)

Can Dido’s love for Aeneas prevail against a wicked sorceress determined to ruin their happiness?

Thumbprint Kamala Sankram, Susan Yankowitz (2014)

Based on the true story of Mukhtar Mai, who brought her brutal attackers to justice in Pakistan. Mai requested her settlement create schools for girls, so they would not experience her humiliation of signing their names only with a thumbprint.
