music.arizona.edu/live
11:00 a.m. AZ/Pacific

This livestream event brings together composition, performance, and scholarship at the University of Arizona
to feature the world premiere of Ibero-American Landscapes, a new work by graduate guitarist
Edwin Guevara Gutiérrez.

This premiere takes place as the final meeting of the course MUS130B (Introduction to Music Literature). Throughout the semester, students in the course have explored five world premieres across music history; L’Orfeo by Claudio Monteverdi (1607), Messiah by George Frideric Handel (1742), Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 (1824), Hector Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique (1830) and The Rite of Spring by Igor Stravinsky (1913). Ibero-American Landscapes, commissioned specifically for MUS130B, is the course’s sixth and final
world premiere.

This event will begin with brief introductory remarks at 11:00 a.m., followed by a live dress rehearsal.
The world premiere of Ibero-American Landscapes will take place at 11:30 a.m., performed by the Tucson
Ibero-American Quartet (Diana Schaible (flute), Cecilia Palma (cello), Misael Barraza-Díaz (guitar),
and Edwin Guevara Gutiérrez (guitar).

This project has been made possible with the generous support of the UArizona Center for University Education Scholarship (CUES)
