The University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music Band Department is hosting the 64th Annual Band Day at Arizona Stadium on Saturday, October 21, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The Southwest’s finest marching bands will participate in this exciting all-day event. The Pride of Arizona Marching Band, under the direction of Chad Shoopman, director of athletic bands and Yudai Ueda, assistant director of bands, will also present two performances.
This year’s event features bands from across Arizona and New Mexico, ranging in size from 30 to over 250 members. Each band is evaluated by a panel of expert judges from the Arizona Band and Orchestras Directors Association in a number of categories including visual execution, musical presentation, and overall performance. The groups receive ratings, and any band that is deemed by the judges as deserving of such recognition will receive the prestigious Nunamaker Award.
Approximately 10,000 to 15,000 spectators attend Band Day yearly. The morning and afternoon sessions will end with an exhibition performance by the University of Arizona’s own Pride of Arizona Marching Band, directed by Chad Shoopman and Yudai Ueda. This year’s electrifying performance features the music of Bruno Mars.
