The UA School of Music offers a minor in music. The requirements are at least 20 units of music coursework, 9 of which must be upper division units (MUS 300 and above). Included in the 20 units, students must take MUS 120A (fall only) and MUS 120B (spring only). These courses are two college-level music theory courses.
The minor is designed to support students interest in music - theoretically, all music courses, ensembles, and individual lessons can be used to satisfy the music minor. Please consult with the UA School of Music Academic Advisor to assist in making appropriate choices in coursework for the music minor.

If students fail the Online Music Theory Readiness Exam, successful completion of MUS 119 (Introduction to Music Theory) is required to declare the music minor. Passing MUS 119 will:
- • help to prepare students to be successful in the first semester of music theory coursework that is required of the minor.
- • in effect, by-pass the readiness exam. Once a student earns a passing grade in MUS 119, he/she can declare the music minor.
- • count toward the requirements of the music minor.
