Minor

Overview

The UA Fred Fox School of Music offers a minor in music. The requirements are at least 20 units of music coursework, 9 of which must be upper division units (MUS 300 and above). Included in the 20 units, students must take MUS 119.

The minor is designed to support students interested in music – theoretically, all music courses, ensembles, and individual lessons can be used to satisfy the music minor. Please consult with the UA Fred Fox School of Music Academic Advisor to assist in making appropriate choices in coursework for the music minor.

To Declare the Music Minor

Current UA students who wish to declare the music minor should make an appointment with the UA Fred Fox School of Music Academic Advisor. To make an appointment with the advisor, please call 520-621-1454.

Other Information

First semester students are NOT permitted to declare a music minor during the first term at the UA. Please plan to begin the declaration process during the second semester or once a UA GPA has been established.

For Additional Information

For additional information on the music minor requirements, class registration and availability, or academic advising and degree check information, please make an appointment with the UA Fred Fox School of Music Academic Advisor at: 520-621-1454.

Fred Fox Graduate Wind Quintet oboist Monserrat García Campos is presenting an oboe recital on Tuesday, April 24 at the Fred Fox School of Music in Room 146. Sharing the stage with her are Hsin-Chih Chang at the piano, flutist David Ramírez and harpist Xiaodi Xu.

Monserrat García Campos is a first-year graduate student at the University of Arizona Fred Fox School of Music pursuing a Master of Music degree in oboe performance under Dr. Sara Fraker’s mentorship. Before coming to the University of Arizona, Monserrat was active as a teacher and performer in Mexico. She was principal oboe in Orquesta Sinfónica de Michoacán, professor at Conservatorio de las Rosas, and teacher at Orquesta Comunitaria Sistema Michoacano de Fomento Musical – an organization based on the Venezuelan El Sistema. In 2009 she joined the prestigious Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil Carlos Chávez, where she played both oboe and English horn for two years, performing under renowned conductors in both the United States and Latin America. In 2013, thanks to her excellent academic standing as an undergraduate student at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, she was selected for an exchange program with the Landen Konservatorium, where she had the opportunity to finish her music studies in Klagenfurt, Austria. She has participated in numerous master classes and workshops from renowned teachers such as Hansjörg Schellenberger, Thomas Indermühle, and Michael Turnovsky.
